Happy Friday, everyone! Considering it’s the weekend, and almost everyone will be going to grab some drinks tonight, this blog post is dedicated to celebrating the end of the work week! Well, for most people. I will be working tomorrow. To start off, I have to say that I am not a fan of gin. I have had bad experiences in the past, and I don’t want to re-live that again! I prefer vodka or tequila. My top drink choices are: margaritas, moscow mules and long islands. So far, the best place I have gone to grab a margarita was Fiesta Mexicana on Lincoln. They even have karaoke some nights. You can sing with a margarita in one hand and a taco in the other. The best moscow mules are at State on Webster. I’ve heard they have too much ginger in it, but I love it. On Thursdays, vodka cocktails are only $7. You know where to find me. I have yet to find an amazing long island, so let me know any recommendations. Cheers to the freakin’ weekend! Love, Miz Mak

This picture is so old you can even see a single red eye. I think I was about six years old in this picture. What a cutie! I actually remember taking it. I had just gotten that nightgown, and it had a sheer overlay on the back. I thought I looked just like a princess, so I set up a green blanket in the background and spread my dress around. Over ten years later and I still want to be a princess. ‘90s babies had the best life growing up. I remember collecting beanie babies, playing with my Bop It and dancing around my room with my Hit Clips. I loved playing Polly Pocket during recess and taking care of my Furby when I got home. The cartoons were even stellar. I just saw an article about how CatDog is 20 years old. Man, I’m old. I also watched Hey Arnold, Johnny Bravo, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Ed, Edd n Eddy. I even wanted to be a PowerPuff Girl. I was either Bubbles or Blossom. There is about a 12 year difference between this photo and the photo from Day 18: Coffee Break below. Love, Miz Mak Coffee time! This is a typical Makayla-weekend look. No makeup. Sweater. Coffee (or tea). Actually, I try to stay away from coffee in the mornings during the week. I love coffee, but I don’t drink it often, so it really affects me. I get really jittery and hyper, then I get that hard caffeine crash. So, I try to avoid it in the mornings and push through the day. However, when that 3:00pm tiredness kicks in, then I’m all for it. At work, I love the classic vanilla latte. At Dunkin Donuts, I love the caramel iced coffee, mostly because it’s like a dollar from 3-6pm. At Starbucks, I usually get the seasonal drink, but I don’t go often because your girl is broke. I was recently introduced to the matcha latte at work, and I’m really feeling it. I have heard (via natural living and friends) that it has a ton of benefits like antioxidants, memory boosts and increasing energy. I also feel a lot better after drinking it, because I don’t reach that caffeine high with coffee. It’s gradual and pretty steady. So, it's more like a coffee + tea + matcha break. Wine, too. Love, Miz Mak If you know anything about Chicago, you know that the only real way to get around is by public transportation. Unless you have crazy money to pay off every parking ticket, red light ticket and parking meter, than the CTA is the way to go. For those who aren't Chicagoans, the CTA is Chicago Transit Authority, and it's the different modes of public transportation such as the L train and the buses. Am I missing anything? Let me break it down for you. There are 8 L trains - red, blue, green, brown, yellow, pink, orange, purple and pink - that cut or circle around downtown Chicago and spread out through the city. There are also hundreds of buses that run either North and South or East and West. Especially during the winter, the CTA can be a pain, but it's a lot easier than driving everywhere, especially because parking is so scarce. Other options are Lyft or Uber. I'm more of a Lyft person, but that's a debate for another day. If you don't know what those are, then I can't help you. Get a cab. Love, Miz Mak
When I made this 30 day challenge in March, I was hoping that this would be a post on sunny weather. You know what they say though, "April showers bring May flowers." Does that include snow showers, considering it snowed like three days ago? I don't know if I prefer warm and drizzly or cold and sunshine. It's a toss up. I do know that I am sick of all of these weather changes. All I want is to bury my parka in my closet for the next five months! Needless to say, I think this April was a prime example of how bipolar Chicago weather can be. In one week we had snow, rain and 70 degree weather. Keep in mind that my dad recently moved to Florida, and he has had consistent 80 degree weather since February. I am seriously considering moving, because Chicago is just teasing me at this point. Love, Miz Mak If you know anything about me, you know that I am obsessed with bargain shopping. I get a little adrenaline rush when I find great deals. These shoes were no exception.
The blue pair is from Yoki and I have no idea what that is... But they were marked down to $7 and $5. Then I got like another 20% off. In the end, I got these two pairs of shoes for a total of $9. I know, I’m drooling too. I typically shop at places like Ross, TJ Maxx, Forever 21 and H&M. There’s also a new store that I discovered called Rainbow. People ask why I shop at discount stores. It's because rent, food, student loans, and bills got me balling on a budget. I'll let you know next time I have some good finds. Love, Miz Mak Happy Friday the 13th! Actually, I really hate this day, because I’m superstitious about some things, like opening an umbrella inside a house. If you open an umbrella inside, then you get like seven years of bad luck. **I wrote lunch instead of luck on accident. I don’t know if seven years of bad lunch or luck is worse** When writing this, I used the good ol’ Wikipedia to actually look up Friday the 13th. It said that estimated 17 to 21 million people in the United States are effected by a fear of this day, making it the most feared day and date in history. Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed (Wikipedia). I don’t know how reliable it is, but I trust it. Here are some of my top fears/phobias: Elevators (I’m 100% convinced I will die in an elevator) Ticks (Oh my God) Confined Spaces Ghosts (No joke) Darkness (except I can only sleep in pure darkness) White noise Opening umbrellas inside Heights Things I’m not terribly afraid of: Public Speaking Needles (I donate blood a lot) Flying Clowns Spiders (depends) Snakes Agoraphobia (Fear of open or crowded spaces) Thunder or lightning I wish you all a safe Friday the 13th. Love, Miz Mak I bet you can’t figure out how old I was in this picture.
This photo of me was taken in 2010, so I was 15 years old. I have been told that I haven’t changed at all since then. I haven’t even grown in height. When I a teenager, I was very interested in modeling, acting and fashion shows. I was good at it, too! Well, the fashion shows at least. It was so much fun traveling to different cities to walk the run way, and the best part was that the fashion shows were for charity! I did an Acuvue commercial, too. No, I won't show it to anyone. When I turned 18, I was still standing at 5’5” and a majority of companies were looking for 5’8” and taller. As hard as I tried, modeling agencies just didn't want to book me, because I was too short.. So then came the end of an era. Ironically, I do work with Chicago's Fashion Week! I host the red carpet and sometimes the actual fashion shows. I may not be walking the runway anymore, but I'm still in front of the camera! Love, Miz Mak This blog post is more of a shout out to these three beautiful women who don’t need a filter. These women are just as beautiful on the inside as they are in this picture. As much as it’s nice to adjust the contrast or saturation – I’m really pale, so I like saturation – it’s even better posting a natural picture every once in a while. There are a lot of edited pictures on social media (I edit mine, too), and I have started to see the effect on self esteem that it has on people, especially girls.... but his is a story for another day. I'll probably write about it on Day 30 What I've Learned. Let me get back to these beautiful ladies in this picture. I have known these women for about ten years now, and they have been there for me through the ups and downs. We were recently reunited at a gender reveal this past weekend (it’s a boy!), and I couldn’t be more glad to see them. PS this is the first baby from my high school group of friends! Anyway, I am so happy to call these gals my pals, and I can't wait to add another member to the team. See some throwback photos below Love, Miz Mak
