Unless you’re a DePaul student, which you probably are if you’re reading this, then you just started classes. The first day of classes can be really scary and full of many awkward opportunities. Let’s go through the ones that I’ve personally encountered on the first day.
1. Not knowing anyone in your class Last year, I went to my class, and I didn’t know anyone. So, I had to sit next to that one kid who also doesn’t know anyone either, who sits by himself picking his nose. I wanted to have friends, so I started picking my nose too, and now we’re Facebook friends. 2.Going to the wrong class Oops. My class was number 223, and I went to room number 232. It was supposed to be Communication 101, but the professor walked in and said, “Hello, welcome to Biochemistry 433. Someone please discredit the phrase ‘the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology.’” That was my cue to frantically sprint to the door. 3. Showing up late and the professor is already talking If you’re a female, you can relate. Or, if you’re human you can relate. Snooze buttons are attractive, but if you hit them one too many times, it turns into trouble. Then, you walk in and everyone stares at you, including the professor. Now you’re the professor’s least favorite student and you fail the class. Side note: Even though the snooze button brings trouble, you keep hitting it anyway. 4. Knowing your frenemy is in your class. Frenemy (noun): Someone who thinks you like them, but you actually hate them. So, when you see them sitting in your class, do you go sit by them, or pretend you didn’t see them? Here’s a hint: Sit by them if: You don’t know any one else in your class. They call you over and you can’t get away. They have food. You forgot your book and they have theirs. You know they'll let you cheat off them. You have no other options. Otherwise, feel free to pretend you didn’t see them I hope the first week of classes go well. As for my fellow DePaul students, week 4 is coming up… Who’s excited for midterms?! MizMak
